One of my highlights of LSF 2026 was a talk, and subsequent conversation, with the original story creator of animated film Gnomeo & Juliet, Rob Sprackling. Rob was very generous with his time and explained how the film came into being. He originally spoke to his British agent based in LA about the idea, but was told Americans wouldn’t get the idea of garden gnomes. However, via a roundabout route, it ended up at Disney, so the Americans obviously did get it!
