We are an independent film production company based in Plymouth, Devon.

Our mission statement: who we are, and our ‘Why’.

Stories are everywhere. They tell us who we are - the best and the worst of it - and they connect us to each other and the world we live in. Who holds the compelling story holds the hearts and minds of others. Politicians know this, as do salespeople, preachers...and storytellers. What we do with that story, well, that's a matter of conscience.

At Aria Starlight Pictures, we are not here to control or to manipulate, but to present stories which make an emotional connection with our audiences. To do this, we must first have that connection ourselves, so we write stories which are meaningful to us. Stories which touch us, stories which make us feel the ecstasy and agony of being human. It's a very personal thing, and yet...common to all of us.

Our mission is to celebrate and practice the ancient art of storytelling through moving images, sounds and music, to lift the soul and challenge the mind. We aim to do this through creative collaboration across the crafts and disciplines of filmmaking, drawing the best from those who work with us. This happens when we build a supportive working environment which respects and celebrates everyone’s creative input.

There's no getting away from the fact that we, the founders of Aria Starlight Pictures, are 'of a certain age'...an age where many of our contemporaries are slowing down and thinking about retirement. Not us - we have unfinished business! Something about being older means that we have a lifetime's worth of the peculiar experience of being human, and that gives us something to say. We are more passionate than ever to inform our work with the perspective that comes only with age.

Why? Simply because we want to see a more compassionate world and, by telling stories, perhaps we can all live in better harmony with each other and with the world we're privileged to inhabit.

What type of stories do we tell?

At Aria Starlight Pictures, we love all genres of film, and are inspired by stories which excite the emotions, lift the soul, celebrate connection and compassion, and explore the depth and breadth of this terrible and wonderful species we humans are.

We are particularly excited by magical realism - stories set in our own world which have a touch of something mysterious, unexpected, perhaps unexplained. This is a great way to explore our species through a stranger's eyes.

We also like to create emotional touchstone moments for our audiences, so both our comedies and dramas always seek ways to stir the impulse to laugh, cry and cheer.
